This wool rug is woven in Afghanistan with vegetable dyes and hand spun wool. This is a Sumak weave (Hand woven Sumak weave rugs are flat weaves (No pile). Kilims are also flat weaves. The deference is that Sumaks are more like embroidery and take longer to weave.) The design is inspired from antique Turkmen rugs of 19th century. This rug is produce by organize weaving project in Afghanistan. These rugs are woven in the same way as they were in late 19th century. The color combination is up dated to reflect to days decorating needs. These efforts produce high quality rugs with timeless beauty.
